The Ambitions of a Young Producer
Born in 1994 and raised in Southern California, Mitchell would spend his time between school, sports, and watching as much TV as he could get away with. Everything from cartoons on Kids WB to rerun movies on FX, he would be glued to the TV and the stories it told. This gave Mitchell an instinct to create, finding an outlet in school projects that allowed him to make videos instead of powerpoints or dioramas. But growing up in an Asian-American household, the idea of turning this instinct into a career never crossed his mind. The only Asians he had seen on TV growing up were old Bruce Lee films or dubbed Godzilla movies. With his older cousins going into business, law, or med school, he put his head down and followed suit.
It wouldn’t be until his fourth year as an Accounting Major at Cal State Fullerton that he would even entertain the idea of the entertainment industry. A friend he had who was a film major would show him their homework and it just sparked something in him. So in an attempt to take hold of his future, Mitchell picked up a minor in film, beginning his journey as a producer.
Starting off his career, Mitchell had to take unpaid PA jobs just to get onto set, since a minor in film didn’t provide him with a reel or any student projects. But Mitchell found his way into the True Crime genre creating his first show, I Met My Murderer Online. He also found his way into casting with the help of Gabrielle Almagor, allowing him to start as an intern and making his way to Casting Associate. Now, while continuing to grow his True Crime company along with growing in the casting field, Mitchell is pursuing his own scripted projects and aims to become a force in creating excellent and compelling Asian-American lead stories.
